The Physical Keyboard Comeback

I never believed the physical keyboard was becoming obsolete in the first place, but Apple is progressing one of the best input devices we have with computers. I never thought I'd be praising Apple for anything they've "invented" or "innovated," but I have to give this one to them for sure.

The most recent announcement of the next Apple Macbook Pro has really gotten the attention of many. Not in the "we're removing the headphone jack" kind of attention, but in the "this is actually innovative and impressive" kind. Apple announced that the new Macbook Pros will come with an LED and touch screen keyboard built in. Now, they weren't the first, but they will hopefully be the first successful company to do so.

Back in 2007, a company named Optimus was trying to create an OLED keyboard which contained an LED screen on each physical key. This allowed the key faces to be lowercase and uppercase when shift is pressed. It allows the users to also change languages and program keys to different commands. Unfortunately, the start up company never made it a reality and the keyboard was estimated to be priced at a nice $1,500.

Starting at $1,800, the Macbook Pro will feature this keyboard that allows for the same language toggles, intractable keys dependent on the running programs, and even the use of emoji keys. On top of that, the top bar of the keyboard will feature a small LED screen for interaction between popular programs like Spotify to see your playlists and queue.

I actually plan on the 15 inch laptop being my first Apple product I've ever owned. Between this and Windows 10 driving me away, I can't wait to see what this laptop and the OS itself has to offer. I currently run an ASUS Republic Of Gamers G75. It has been (and still is) a beast running strong for five years.
