Whenever I’m on shift I strive to make sure everyone is having a good day at the front desk. Some of us, Student Ambassadors do have some downy days or just are tired. I noticed that so I decided to be the goofball of the SA's.
Every time I walk into UAT I head to the front desk and check-in and see how everyone’s doing. I just walk up and say, “Welcome to Chili’s!” They know the usual. I ask everyone’s day and get them to talk about themselves. After a while, I get into the groove and start working but then I pull my trap card. The stuff I say at the desk is to get funny reactions out of everyone. I would say out of nowhere comments or make jokes with everyone.
I do make myself look like a dork to entertain the others. But my lightheartedness doesn’t stop there. I joke with café staff and point fun with them. I go around doing it to students and even visitors. Whenever I have the chance to go joke around with people and have the chance to brighten their day I will. Rare chances during my shift I go to Founder’s Hall and I mess with the Residential Assistants. Even in the Portal where the staff is like the admissions advisors or student services, I see them and joke with them.
I just try and make everyone’s day a little bit better. I know me and the other SA’s have a good relationship with our bosses so I feel special that I can joke with them and know I can make them laugh. As long I get at least one laugh or smile out of my fellow co-workers that’s good enough for me.
