We recently knocked out our first game jam of the new school year, the annual Founder’s Game Jam. I spent a few days preparing and hyping up other students, but I wasn't the only student ambassador excited to build a new video game in 48 hours. Our new student ambassador Jordan Brown wanted to work together with me to create something during this jam. He also helped me write this blog.
My favorite part of online games is the competition. Whether participating in high-level tournaments or competing at local game shops, people try their hardest to win a game regardless of the reward. Here at UAT, we have an eSports club where we play Overwatch at collegiate competitions for scholarship money.
When I first started college here at UAT, I brought some clothes and my work computer. As you could imagine, my dorm room felt bland and empty. So, during my second semester though, I bought (and bartered for) tons of posters, trinkets and furniture. It finally felt like home. Pick up these five items to make your dorm room feel more like your own personal space and less like a rotating room at summer camp.
The University of Advancing Technology is different. You can tell as soon as you walk in the door just how different it is and how strong the culture is. But what makes it so different from other universities? For me, it's our people—the friendly community of geeks who help each other out, make each other laugh and push each other to innovate and create.
Learning Python this semester has been one of the most engaging educational experiences of my life. Somehow, Professor Gose manages to teach Python—a basic programming language—in the most intuitive way. His lessons are less of a lecture and more of an immersive experience. He constantly engages students and tailors his lessons for different learning styles. That's why Introduction to Python is my favorite class.
