    Programmers in design

    After a few semesters of studying Advancing Computer Science here at UAT, I learned that there was more to computers and programming than just knowing languages like C++, Java, or Python. Programmers tend to forget that people will be seeing the end product, and while something can be mechanically successful, it also needs to be designed successfully. I started taking Human-Computer Interaction classes along with my Computer Science classes, and found the two programs to be highly compatible and almost necessary.

    Gaming is... an enigma. There are so many facets of video games that it can often seem overwhelming. Even outside of choosing a video game itself, there are options like the monitor, the console, the internet connectivity, the sensitivity and video settings, and intriguingly enough... the controller. Game controllers are something that may seem like the last thing on someone's mind, but they actually play a vital role in how players interact with the games they love.

    Designing with Empathy

    This past Wednesday (May 28th, 2014), I went to my first IxDA Phoenix meeting to learn more about designing with empathy. Two UX Architects from IBM, Brenton Elmore and Teresa Swingler, gave a presentation and hosted a short workshop on how to empathize with users.
