    Crime Literature

At UAT we have the opportunity to take what are called Special Interest Topics classes.  These classes can cover a very wide range of topics from literature to industry specific interests.  I'm fairly certain I spoke about my Game Of Thrones class from one of my past semesters and that was a blast.  The class I'm taking this semester is Crime Literature, where we started by studying the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie.  Though the class is titled "Crime Literature" though, we don't just tackle the literature involved.  Instead we're essentially seeing how the genre as a whole has evolved over time so we are looking at things like the more contemporary Sherlock Holmes in comparison to the Holmes literature.  In some respects the two are very similar, though in others they could almost seem like completely different worlds.

    A Game Design Portfolio

Posted on Mar 25, 2015 2:56:27 PM by admin in Academics, in Blogs, in game design degree, in Game Design

For both Game Art and Animation and Game Programming, what exactly sits in your portfolio when you go to find a job should be somewhat obvious.  With Game Design it can seem like things appear just a little bit murkier.  You learn early on that much of your job as a game designer is documentation.  Then you start learning mechanic, concept and level design; all of which can be substantially more visually exciting to look at but not always.  Plus with level design, you can't always expect that developers would have everything you need them to have in order to play your level.  So what do you do?  What do developers really want to see from Game Designers?  Well we recently had the opportunity to speak with developers from EA and Blizzard and they revealed some fairly enlightening things.
