How to Survive College - Part Two

Greetings and salutations everyone!

Today's topic in how to survive life at UAT or college in particular is things to keep you busy! Or time management for you guys who want something to reference to in how to do it!

While in college, there are generally two types of individuals. Those who have so much time on their hands that they do not know what to do with it, or those with so little time that they need some kind out outlet or means of being able to manage things accordingly. I myself fall into both avenues respectively, but there are instances where I can switch in between to try and find something to do.

If you're a person like me, you always like to have something to do, otherwise I get bored very easily, so my general outlet would be going to clubs, or playing some games in particular!

At UAT in particular, we are running approximately 15 individual student clubs. Aside from these clubs, there are also several unofficial clubs as well, with the only difference with official vs unofficial is the presence of Student Government funding for events and the like! They would range from anything that would be Nerf Wars or Foam Fighters, to the Video Game clubs behind League of Legends, Smash Bros or Dota, or going into degree specific such as Layer 8 (Network Security), Bad Alloc (Programming/Computer Science), or the Animation Club (Game Art and Animation).

If you want to find like-minded individuals, student clubs are the best avenue to follow, or if you find that there is not a club that pertains to your interests in particular, then you could also create your own! Creating a student club is as easy as finding four or five like-minded individuals and create a proposal with the application to Student Government. Generally as long as it's not too crazy like skydiving or bungee jumping, you will generally be accepted for them!

Otherwise, if you need a nice outlet for some time, video games never hurt. Whether you play them casually or on a competitive level, there are several different games and so many genres out there that you can play! Below you will find some of my favorites based on genre/platform:

Given if playing games is not your forte, you could find other things to do around the Tempe area such as finding a part time job, working on a potential Student Innovation Project, or even just going to places such as the Arizona Mills Mall or the Main Event for other outside attractions and the like.

Regardless, there is always going to be something to do, and whether you'd like to stay busy outside of classes, or just to have something to do on the off chance, then look around and join a club or two! They're definitely a cool way to connect with some classmates, and meet new people too.

Until next time,

-Nicholas "TAE"
