This Post is Largely Concerned With Hobbits

I finally finished reading The Hobbit for my Tolkien Studies class. Overall, a really good book. If you haven’t read it before, I would definitely encourage you to do so, even if you tried to read the Trilogy before and couldn’t finish it. While I was reading it, I almost felt like my grandpa was telling me a story. Very easy read. I think my favorite part of the whole book was the development of some of the dwarf characters. There’s thirteen of them in the story, but they all had their little quirks and identities. I’ll be starting on The Fellowship of the Ring here soon, so I’m sure you’ll hear me talk about LoTR in future posts as well.

This week I spent some time with HA and some friends at the movies, and saw Lion King 3D and Killer Elite. It had been a really long time since I’d been to the movie theater, and I had a blast going! I really should try to keep up with what’s coming out, I hadn’t heard of Killer Elite until we were at the theater.

Also this week, I won a free UAT shirt! The shirt says “This conversation may be recorded for training purposes” and has a cassette tape on the front. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I feel like the cassette tape is a fairly recognizable recording symbol, in much the same way the floppy is recognized and used as the symbol for saving things. It’s been brought up before, but it’s funny that a generation of people may group up with these symbols when they’ve never had to use a cassette or a floppy. Sparked a really interesting conversation at lunch.

Until next time!
